How to make an Charity Quilt

There are two different jobs involved. You may want to do one or the other or both.

To make a top

• Pick up a packet of coordinate fabric from the ABC Committee. It's also fine to add or just use your own fabric, but make sure that it's all 100% cotton and pre-washed.

• Make a top about 36" x 36". Any design will do; even one piece of colorful fabric will do.

To assemble a quilt

• Pick up a bundle consisting of a top, a back, and batting. Take some embroidery floss or you can use your own. You can also substitute your own fabric for the back (flannel is especially nice).

• Make a quilt sandwich:
• lay out the batting
• on top, lay out the back, right side up.
• lay out the top, right side down

• Pin and sew twice around the quilt ½" from the edge, leaving a 12" opening. Trim and turn right side out. Sew the opening closed.

• For a nice finished look, topstitched around the edge of the quilt with a coordinating color top thread.

• Tie with floss or machine quilt.

• Remember to check for stray pins!
